Bodegas Heredad Ugarte2005 Malvasía – BlancoType: Barrel Aged White Tasting Notes: Very aromatic with hints of clove… sweet oak spice intermingles with aromas of blue cheese with floral undertones. Flavors are quite spicy with lots of creamy pear/quince fruit. Nice integration of fruit, oak and acidity. Long finish; a red wine drinker’s white wine (MP). Other Notes: 100% Malvasía from the 92 year old Viña Carraleza vineyard with yields just over a 1.5 tons per acre. The wine gets 6 months of barrel aging and another 2 months in bottle before commercial release. 2001 Martin Cendoya Reserva - TintoType: Aged Red Tasting Notes: Bright berry aromas; quite floral with meaty undertones… a young wine! It is shy, pretty and delicate but at the same time, haunting. On the palate a sweet attack; delicate, not a power wine. Silky, suprisingly elegant with sweet, supple tannins and a long finish. Really, really, nice (MP). Other Notes: 80% Tempranillo, 15% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo from the Valdesanjuán, Chillarán, Las Llanas, and La Capilla vineyards that were planted between 1900 and 1915. These vineyards collectively yield only 1.5 tons per acre. After malolactic fermentation and 24 months in a mix of American and French barriques the finished wine is aged for another two years in bottle before release. "Ripe yet still refreshing, this red delivers plum, mocha, spice, tobacco and light earth flavors on a plush, balanced frame. Firm tannins emerge on the spicy finish." |
