Bodega Luzdivina Amigo2003 BaloiroType: Young red Tasting Notes: Dusty cocoa and tar with beautiful notes of blueberries, cherry pie, licorice and violet candy. Red fruit stands out against the earthy notes. The palette is verdant and spicy reflecting the savory herbal notes in the nose. Medium weight with great tannins. Other Notes: Baloiro is produced from 50 year-old vineyards that lie on a slight slope with deep alluvial soils comprised of granite and slate. 400 cases made. 100% Mencia. Wine Spectator Magazine –October, 2005 – 87 points 2004 ViñademoyaType: Young red Tasting Notes: Dark tar and primary grape aromas provide a nice earthy canvas for sweet, delicious blackberry / boysenberry fruit infused with orange peel. Juicy, spicy and black pepper on the palette. Good grip on the front of the tongue with a spicy finish. Other Notes: Viñademoya is produced from vineyards that are at least 100 years-old grown on small, steep vineyards with shallow, chalky soil comprised of a sub-layer rich in minerals. 100% Mencia. Wine & Spirits– June, 2006 – 91 points 2003 Viñademoya, Leiros SelecciónType: Special Aged Red Tasting Notes: French oak is subtle and provides a nice platform for raspberry / blackberry tart, coffee, orange peel, cinnamon and licorice. The palate is full, textural and spicy with a hint of Fernet Branca. Open several hours before drinking and / or decant to fully experience the rich aromas of this wine. Other Notes: In Bierzo, the term “leiro”, is used to describe the small, low-yield vineyards throughout the region; each with their own particular micro-climate and unique personality. This special wine, “Leiros”, is made from a small number of these exceptional vineyards, all over 100-years of age, in an area called Viñademoya. Altitude for these vineyards is between 650 and 750 m. and some of these Leiros have a slope over 25%. Additionally, the vineyards in Viñademoya probably represent the largest number of pre-phylloxera vines in El Bierzo region. This special wine is then aged in French oak for 14 months before being bottled and cellared for an additional 18 months. Total of 4,500 bottles produced. Wine & Spirits– February, 2007 – 91 points |
