Valduero2006 / 2007 RosadoType: Rosado Tasting Notes: This beautiful rosado delivers surprising aromas of kumquat, tangerine, clove, verbena and other spices on the nose with a touch of earthiness. On the palate the wine is soft but crisp and refreshing with notes of tangerine and orange peel. (TS) Other Notes: Made with free run juice, from Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) 85% and Albillo 15%, a variety indigenous to Ribera del Duero. The grapes are harvested by hand in 15kg cases. Fermentation takes place at a carefully controlled temperature of 18ºC over a period of 2 weeks. 87 points – Wine & Spirits, August 2007 2003 CrianzaType: Aged Red Tasting Notes: The 2003 Crianza is opaque purple-colored with a huge nose of toasty oak, licorice, black currants and blackberry with a slightly baked character perhaps from the extreme heat of the 2003 vintage. This is followed by a thick, rich, layered, opulent wine with abundant ripe tannin and outstanding balance. This hugely extracted wine will need 8-10 years to become civilized and should drink well for 10-15 years thereafter. Other Notes: 100% Tempranillo aged 18 months in American oak which lends spice, depth and character to this classic Ribera wine. Wine Advocate –2007 - 92 points 2000 ReservaType: Aged Red Tasting Notes: The 2000 Reserva is a bit more refined than the Crianza but hardly a shrinking violet. The color is less dense and the nose is more expressive. There are notes of cedar, tobacco, scorched earth, truffle, blueberry, and blackberry which jump from the glass. On the palate the wine remains youthful with layers of flavor but also some elegance as well as power. The fruit is ripe and sweet, the tannins soft, and the finish lasts for at least 45 seconds. - WA Other Notes: The 1998 vintage offered great fruit and body. This Reserva has been aged for 30 months in French and American Oak barrels. 100% Tempranillo. The result is something special! Wine Advocate –2007 - 94 points 1995 Gran ReservaType: Aged Red Tasting Notes: Remarkably youthful with great complexity. Shows mature, baked fruit accented by clove, all-spice and thyme. Strong meaty notes enhanced by touches of tobacco leaf and smoke. On the palate the wine is long, persistent and well structured. Well developed body that is at once powerful and graceful. Other Notes: It is only in the exceptional vintage years that Valduero produces a Gran Reserva. This wine has been elaborated with a special selection of 100% Tempranillo grapes that come from low-yielding vineyards of at least 45 years old. Grapes were picked by hand and placed in 20-kilo crates to prevent crushing and preserve the entirety of the fruits’ primary bouquet. They were crushed and de-stemmed over the vats to avoid any unnecessary handling or damage. The wine spent 48 months in French and American oak barrels and each barrel was tasted and monitored every six months. The resulting wine is a true treasure. Wonderful depth and layers of fruit, tobacco, spice and earthiness presented in a complex but elegant format. Simply delicious. Civart Prize of Excellence: Bordeaux 2002, recognizing it as among the 17 best wines of the world. |
