Viñedos IthacaJoseph Puig wine glassesTasting Notes: Other Notes: Joseph Puig worked directly with the #1 European glassware manufacturer to design these special signature series glasses. Beautiful, versatile and functional! 2006 / 2007 Odysseus Garnacha BlancaType: White Tasting Notes: Medley of orange sherbet, lemon/lime, English peas, pineapple, honeysuckle and gardenia on the nose. Full, rich, waxy and slightly earthy on the palate. Crisp with long, silky mouth feel and finishes with a lovely note of orange peel. Other Notes: A sexy example of white Priorat made from native Garnacha Blanca (White Grenache). Fruit from 80 year-old vines is macerated for 10 to 18 hours in new French oak and then fermented in stainless steel with a unique method (frozen liter bottles of water are introduced into the must) to control the temperature. 500 cases produced! 2003 vintage - Wine Spectator Magazine – July, 2005 – 90 points! 2007 Odysseus Pedro XimenezType: White - barrel fermented Tasting Notes: Apricots, peaches, nectarines and green apple find room in the nose with additional highlights of roses. Higher toned than the Garnacha Blanca showcasing abundant bright fruit a wonderful mouth feel and a finish of golden raisins. Elegant! Other Notes: Unique and amazing! Pedro Ximenez is most well known as a sherry grape however; once again the incredible duo works their magic to make the only still PX in Spain. (Some say PX is related to Riesling.) Cold maceration in new French oak and stainless steel for about 18 hours then handled minimally. Limited production of 250 cases produced! 2007 Odysseus RosadoType: Rosado Tasting Notes: Other Notes: 100% Grenache “lagrima” (free run juice) slowly fermented in stainless steel. Fruit is the same old vine Garnacha (Grenache) used in the Tinto. ”. Very tough growing conditions has only allowed a limited number of bottles this year, and to extend them, only 500 ml bottles were made available. 100 cases produced. This wine was awarded 90 points (the highest rating of any Rosado) in Spain’s highly regarded “Guia Penin”. 2002 Odysseus TintoType: Aged red Tasting Notes: Similar to the 2001 yet with a bit more structure perhaps. The nose shows intriguing spices, dark berry fruit with identifiable Garnacha and Cariñena varietal characteristics that create an amazing harmony. Palate follows the nose and you are reward with a complexity that is easy to enjoy. Other Notes: Approximately 35% Grenache, 35% Cariñena and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon with the last 10% composed of Touriga Nacional, Petit Verdot, Syrah and Caladoc. More fruit from the Ithaca’s own vineyards but still using old vine fruit with low production (approx. 1/2 pound / vine). Vinified in open 400 liter French oak barrels (60% Quercus Sessili / 40% Quercus Alba). Aged in the same barrels for approximately 10 months and racked periodically as needed. No filtering or fining before bottling. 1100 cases produced. 2003 Odysseus TintoType: Aged Red Tasting Notes: Another Puig classic! Blackberry, kirsch and red apple skin, are beautifully integrated with floral notes, licorice and chocolate. Also present is an attractive meaty, earthiness. Palate reflects the berries and earthiness found on the nose. One of the best examples of a balanced wine from Priorat. Other Notes: The process to make the 2003 Tinto is the same as in years past: the wine is vinified in open 400 liter French oak barrels (60% Quercus Sessili / 40% Quercus Alba) on their ends and then, after pressing, the wine is returned to the same barrels to rest on their sides for 10 to 12 months. However, the 2003 is different from the 2002 due to the hotter summer (providing an earlier and optimal level of maturity) and the blend. This make up of the wine is slightly different from previous years and is composed of 30% Garnacha (Grenache) and Garnacha Peluda (local Grenache strain), 35% Cariñena (old vines on slate soil), 20% Cabernet Sauvignon with the remainder comprised of Touriga Nacional, Petit Verdot, Syrah and Caladoc. No filtering or fining before bottling. 1200 cases bottled in June, 2005. 2006 Penélope Garnatxa BlancaType: Late Harvest Tasting Notes: Nose shows white peach, wet stone, floral, honey with a touch of mint and melon rind. On the pallets it is slight meaty and creamy with juicy stone fruit flavors. Pure, clean but round. Demi-sec style Other Notes: Incredible, totally natural sweet wine using hand selected grapes from the oldest vineyards near Scala Dei. 2006 Penélope Garnatxa PeludaType: Late Harvest Tasting Notes: Nose of red fruits, spicy and warm with cinnamon candies, walnuts, figs, meat and melon mixture. Mouth is lovely with pretty roses bright cherry fruit, spicy cranberry , blood oranges and watermelon on finish. Silky and delicate. Other Notes: Amazing. Totally natural sweet wine made from the same Garnacha fruit as in the Odysseus Tinto. |
